Big Student House was founded by its Directors, George Birtwell and Oliver Dorman. From living in the city for many years George and Oliver saw how poor housing was for sharers – badly managed, run-down houses that were often dark and damp with the sitting rooms turned into a bedroom – and decided this was no good. As a company we have made it our mission to change this, as well improving housing for students in our city, we have played a big part in improving our local community and schools. Recent projects include funding, building and revamping the outside area in the local community pub The Bevvy, as well as funding and decorating the IT suite at Moulsecoomb Primary School, Brighton.

Who we work with?
We work closely with local businesses and over the years have created unique houses, designed, themed, and created with students in mind. All our houses are interior designed by Born Designers and unique artwork is created in all our houses by ART+BELIEVE. Large communal areas ensure our tenants can enjoy their homes and be proud to invite family and friends over.
Our internet providers Huddle support green energy and for every one of our houses they supply for us they plant a tree. They are the UK’s greenest bills provider, and we are proud to use them. We always have the environment in mind when selecting our supplies and building our houses and we are committed to continue this path and make as many changes as we can.
Our aims are to design and build the best possible accommodation for students and young professionals, while being sensitive to neighbours and the community. We love our houses in Brighton, Bristol and Bath, and our students just love to live in them! As a result, there is increasing pressure on the city’s housing supply from all sectors, and more and more people are choosing to live in shared houses, not just students but young professionals too. We recognise that housing more people can put pressure on local communities. It can change the way streets are used and it can create disturbances. However, we believe that with collaboration and proper management we can make it work.
